Flower prints

Found via Design Sponge, these prints by artist Yana Beylinson very much remind me of my favorite Designers Guild fabrics from years past.

Recycled luxe by Hermès

Environmental consciousness
Frugality of the wealthy
Entrpreneurial decisions

The new line of Hermès spells new chic and new biz!

"The home accessories and jewellery line is made up of "unidentified poetic objects" or simply put, scraps from Hermes' workshop floor (and defective products). Tea pots have been converted into jewellery hangers, leftover leather from the famous Birkins into necklaces or deer (see pics) and intriguingly, imperfect crystalware has been made into tools for exercise.
The collection is a collaboration between Pascale Mussard, company founder Thierry Hermès' great-great-great granddaughter, brand designers and other artists. The first collection went on display at Hermes' Paris store from November to December last year; the next collection will be displayed in Tokyo in May and New York and Beverly Hills in October".

Personal Heaven in Manhattan

I was first drawn by the apparent randomness yet harmony of this room; the conversation between the rug and the bookshelves, the armchair and the bed. The drawing of the young woman and the turquoise of the chandellier. I definitively don't like the cruxified Marilyn, that I find scarey, but I suppose that picture has something to say to the owner's psyche and process of healing.

The vintage ceiling fixture is by Ettore Sottsass

I then liked the clean, almost monastic lines of the bed. The presence of the personal "saints" above the bed. The richness of the crimson bed rug ringing in the holliness implied by the photography.

The presence of flowers, with the sunflowers popping out of the picture

A private, personal story being told in every room.

Greek interior design blogs

Hello dear friends,
Are you recovering from the holidays? Not yet? Then you must be ready for some new visual stimulation, to get us through the winter months.
My newest blogging friend, Maratonjenta from Norway, asked me recently which Greek blogs I would recommend, that deal with interior design.

Redeco

I believe the most inclusive website regarding decoration is Rdeco which has lots of links to other sites as well. There are many re-posts from well known international websites, and they also publish some original content, especially with regard to making things, and local hands-on info.

Spitoskylo

They also have sister sites on fashion and beauty and another one on real-life homes, Greek and international, called Spitoskylo.

Yatzer

You may also want to read my personal design favorite, Yatzer, (yes, it is famous, and it is Greek!).

I hope all this helps you get a little more aquainted with the world of Greek design blogs.  I'll post some more about Greek designers, soon.
Have fun;-)

After-Christmas pinks (and cremes, and blues)

Hello dear friends,
I hope you all had a lovely, loving Christmastime.
We are officially back on after Christmas mode as of Monday, when all Christmas decorations will be packed for the next 300-something days!
We are now thinking of the sales deco. Sales start on January 15, in this part of the world, so we'll make separate spaces for what is on sale as well as our promotions.
As for me, I'm in Spring mood. Summer even.
So, I was relieved when I found out, surfing the blogosphere, that other people among you, ladies, already think of warmer weather, too!
So here is what spells softer days for me, right now:

This year I am planting rows of hydrangeas. I had a solitary one planted under the entrance stairs, but it was dug out when we redid the garden. So I am definitively looking forward to some lovely spring blooms in my earthenware containers!

I wish you all a lovely, healthy, happy 2011.
