Hello dear friends,
I hope you are all enjoying the first days of the Autumn.
Today I bring you a photo from our summer holidays. I only now begin processing them. I sort of kept them for until Autumn arrived. You know, something nice to look forward to. A certain distance so as to appreciate them more...
I took this photo in the chursh of St. Paraskevi, on the island of Thassos, NE Greece.
This beautiful handmade croshet is lining a basket that will be used to serve the congregation blessed bread after the end of the service, on the Saint's day, July 26th.
I feel a quiet admiration for the women and men who dedicate time from their lives in serving and taking care of our churches. The time spent, the effort, the taste of making them feel welcoming...like your own home.
So glad you are joining us on our croisiere around our beautiful Globe. This is such a great idea and I am thrilled to be joining Designing DNA for the vacation.
And welcome to Greece, the Eastern frontier of Europe.
Breathe in the fresh air as we drive through the beautiful countryside.
Let yourselves appreciate the sparkling blue of the waters.
Pick your hotel room. They have all been furnished with matresses, bed linen and furniture from the company my husband and myself work for. So rest assured that you will enjoy your rest.
Ready? Let's pop outside. It's Spring in this part of the world. The weather is mild and the air fragrant.
There are some great spots you may want to visit. The Acropolis is a unique historican and spiritual place to visit, and the exhibits at the new Acropolis Musum are just amazing.
There is currently an exhibition at the National Gallery with architectural plans by Ernst Ziller who graced many Greek cities with his neoclassical buildings.
In my favorite Museum there is currently an exhibition on clothes across time. "To dress", at the Benaki Museum.
Would you like to go souvenit shopping, now? I think I have just the thing for you.
I suggest some special souvenirs, like these stylish column shaped weights, and this granny-chic i-pod case.
Perhaps you would also like a serious girly treat for yourselves or a friend.
Tea or coffee? Sit back and watch the world go round.
As we people watch, shall we leaf through the 10th anniversary issue of Vogue-Hellas?
These are some lovely Greek homes from its sister publication, House and Garden.
Our company was also featured in House and GardenGreece.
It's getting late. Shall we walk some more before dinner?
Look, here sings one of my favorite singers.Come on in.
There is so much more I want to show you. I hope you'll visit again soon. Meanwhile click here to join my Spring giveaway.
And while we set sail for the next stop of the cruise, let's dance to something more familiar, accompanied with great 'vintage' views of Athens.
Hello and welcome to this week's Greek Wedding post.
Today I am going to show you some beautiful photography. Taking photographs is an integral part of most major family occasions. Weddings top the list. The photographer I am introducing today does a wonderful job in taking colorful or b&w, atmospheric and natural looking photgraphs. She has a feeling for the local customs and traditions, as well as people's feelings and emotions.
She can thus capture both the special and the mundane and make everyone look charming and beautiful on that very special day.
Make sure you see her beautiful christening photos, too.
Hello and welcome to my Greek Weddings, posted on Thursdays.
Today I am going to offer you a taste of some of the nicest places to spend your honeymoon. Location obviously comes first. If you choose to spend some of the most memorable days in your life in Greece, it's probably because you have nice memories from a previous vacation, or because you have seen images from parts of Greece that you would like to visit.
The Greek islands are most people's first choice. It is true that every Greek island both on the Aegean and the Ionian seas has something special to offer, a distinct character that makes it special. The Greek mainland has some lovely hidden gems that we shall also cover. Athens, although not an obvious destination for a honeymoon, offers some excellent hotels and resorts and some very idyllic corners that you may want to explore, too.
As you know, if you've been following this blog long enough, the company we work for furnishes some of the best hotels and boutique hotels in Greece, both on the islands and in the mainland. We are therefore in the best position to know and suggest where you might want to go and spend some wonderful time that will stay with you for ever.
Today though, I am not going to write about places not because we have furnished or decorated them. I am going to share two of the very best Greek hotels as picked from Conde Nast Traveller. Featured in this year's Hot List, we find Santorini Grace. It is part of the Grace Hotels Group that has seen its sister hotel, Mykonos Grace making it to last year's Hot List.
The Santorini Grace sits on the very edge of a cliff; viewed from above, it looks like a sunbather languidly dangling a limb over the lip of the island's famous caldera. Number 46, is a honeymoon suite offering complete privacy.
A Mykonos staple and one of its most loved hotels, is the Belvedere. It is being renovated and is due to open April 20. Read more about the Belvedere here. (It so happens that these hotels feature our organic beds, furniture and bed linen, but I am not cheating here, they are simply the best!) Some more Greek boutique hotels from Conde Nast, here. Enjoy the tour, see you next week!
As promised, starting today and every Thursday, I am going to offer here a series of posts about organising a wedding ceremony in Greece. Expect to find the best places to honeymoon, from luxurious hotels to hidden gems, but also a lot of info on wedding services, from that special dress to the wedding reception, things that are hard enough to organize anyway, but even more so if you are travelling to a foreign country.
So, let us start with the tops of the list in event organisers. If you want to have your wedding organised for you, the easiest way to go, would be to hire a wedding organiser. You have cought a glimpse of her work on this post. She is one of the hottest wedding (and christening) organisers in Greece right now. Here are some glimpses of her work.
Take a look at her Christening arrangements, too. You know how a good wedding is so followed by a good Christening in the ceremony exchange!
