American dream

I love America.
In my head and my heart I have all these stories that I have heard of family members taking the ship to an unklown place where people spoke a language very few of them had heard before, and I am so admiring them.
So yes, I do love America for the freedom, for the everything is possible if you try hard enough, I love the land of the brave, the cowboys and the old values.
I do love New York, too. The S** and the City vision, the taxis, the parades, the energy of it.
Thank God for dreams, especially for beautiful dreams coming true.

Strolling in the rain

One day, last week, I went to downtown Athens to shop for a friend's wedding.
Here is what I saw.

There is Christmas in the air, oh yes, there is,
and some cheer, and some rain,
and places familiar, old and new
that i am thankful for, as I am of you.

Gratitude

Hello , friends,

Let's start our week with gratitude and praise for all that is good in our lives.

I find the idea of the first verse such a relief. Come think about it,  knowing that we are loved unconditionally and that we are here for a higher purpose, is an encouragement to our tired souls and an incentive to keep walking in the path of our lives.

So today, I am grateful for my babies. Even when they drive me nuts, i know that they are my biggest achievement.
I am gr8ful for our home. Coming home to a place of warmth that speaks of me and my family is a great pleasure in life.
I am gr8ful for my husband, the companion of my life.He balances me when I freak out. Thank you, honey!
I am gr8ful for my little corner on the net, where I can come and write whenever I can, and i am thankful for my blogging friends who give me the pleasure of their good thoughts and encouraging words.
I am gr8ful for work and food.
I am gr8ful for family and friends who are here for us.
I am grateful for all that is good and noble and for the presence of God in our lives. He picked me from the dust and I am forever gr8ful that He is God.

I wish you all a blessed week.

My garden in Athens

In the weekend I worked in the garden.
I have wanted to do that for quite some time.
It is beginning to feel like Autumn, over here, too, now.
So, I planted for wintertime.

Broccoli, lettuce, parsley, celery and dill.
Looking forward to oranges and satsumas.
All seasons are beautiful when you live close to Nature.

Be Happy,

Angels

Today we, Greek Orthodox Christians, celebrate the Angels.
May they protect us all.
May they guide us.
May we be open to their presence.

~Declutter the Home Declutter the Mind~

via

We're all guilty of it — filling our homes with useless junk we don't need or use. But a cluttered home can lead to a cluttered mind, so stop putting it off - take some time to clear out your clutter. It's a positive, empowering action that will create more time and space for a fresh new you!

From the piles of mail on your kitchen table to the boxes stacked on top of your wardrobe, clutter is a part of daily life. It might not bother you. You could be so used to those mounds of clothes and piles of shoes that you simply don't notice them anymore. But clear them out and you'll gain space in more ways than one.

"Our homes are a reflection of ourselves," says professional de-clutterer of Your Personal Organiser, a service that helps people organise their lives.

"People often have a cluttered space because there's something else going on. It's not always just about the stuff. But it works both ways — a cluttered space equals a cluttered mind.

It's very difficult to relax and feel in control when you can't find anything. It takes longer to do everything, which becomes frustrating and depressing. Being organised and clutter-free brings clarity and peace of mind."

Statistics suggest one-in-four persons feel anxious and overwhelmed about their clutter.

So, conquer your clutter and take control of your life? It might sound far-fetched, but it's a good place to start. And there are other benefits too, like saving money.

"One of the biggest problems with clutter is that it means you often overlook important things, like bills. So you end up paying a late fee or a reconnection fee if a utility has been cut off. In extreme cases the debt collectors could even be called in."

You might even shop less once you've had a clear out — are you likely to buy another black top when you realise you already have five? And you can stop yourself doubling up on things.

You could even turn your clear out into a money-making scheme — hold a garage sale to get rid of all your junk and you might make a tidy profit. But don't use it to buy more junk. Treat yourself to a nice meal, or put it towards paying the bills. How to get started...

1.Focus on one area at a time. "It's easy to feel overwhelmed when you look at the big picture, Break the project up into smaller pieces that are more manageable."

2.Ask yourself these questions for every item you pick up: Do I use it? Do I like it? Do I need it? If you answer no, chuck it out.

3.If you're struggling to let go of something, put it in a box and store it away. If you haven't used it or needed it three months later, or you've forgotten what's in the box, it's time to let go.

4.Accept your mistakes and move on. That dress you bought for $10 because, well, it was $10, should never have found its way into your wardrobe. Send it to a new home.

5.Acknowledge the fact you're a different person now to who you were five, 10 or 20 years ago. Hobbies and interests change, so if you used to use your rollerblades every weekend but you haven't been out on them in years, let them go.

How to keep up the momentum...

1.For every new item you buy, get rid of two old ones.

2.Get into the habit of putting things away. If you find yourself constantly leaving the same things out, find a new, more accessible place to store them.

3."Remember the 80/20 principle. Most people use 20 per cent of their stuff 80 per cent of the time." This is especially relevant where clothes are concerned, so start rotating your wardrobe. If you still avoid certain items, send them to the op shop.

4.If it's offered, choose paperless billing and eliminate piles of mail while saving the rainforests.

5.When you hit the sales this month, follow this mantra — if in doubt, leave it out. If you're unsure about something in the shop, you'll probably be even less sure when you get it home.

Be Blessed Of Divine Light.

Saturday

Watched:
Awkward (with my youngest she, who is a fan. I love her and I liked it!)
That's what I see when you tell me to get off the computer mom, she said. So I had to sit and watch.

You've got mail
And I cried. Again.

 +I looove Nora Ephron!
- Couldn't help thinking of our old shop. The scenario is so similar.

I haven't told you much about the twists and turns. But, well, I have set to tune myself with what the Universe wants to tell me. So I am trusting God that what we do is for the best.

Wondered

I don't know what to make of Princess Madeleine of Sweden fiance, Mr Christopher O'Neill. Does he not ever smile? Not even on his engagement to a gorgeous Nordic Princess? Does a job in finances turn you into such a stiff and tight lipped person from such an early age?

 Apparently it does.

Souvlaki for the Soul
Eat:

Had some home made halva (btw, what a beautiful, unpretentious and on the spot blog this is!).

Shopped:

Our Athenian Christmas tree. An artificial one and a potted conifer. And fairy lights.

Did you do what you wanted to do today?

8 Things to do in the autumn

Autumn is such a wonderful time of the year!
However, we usually rush through it, looking forward to Christmas or being busy with getting ready for Christmas. But wait! Stop! Take a deep breath and look around!

1.Add some colour.

Indulge in the season's browns and oranges.

2.Pick up those leaves.
Feel like a child. Marvel at the beauty, the colours, the perfume of the land.

3.Eat your greens.
Autumn offers an abundance of greens that can be hearty and healthy.
Plus all the apples and oranges to keep your palate krisp and clean.

4. Take a hike.

It's so much easier when you are not sweating and the sun doesn't burn your head.

5.Travel off season.
Prices are lower so now is the perfect time to visit a usually busy spot and have it all to yourself.
Enjoy the attention.

6.Get behind the wheel.

...And enjoy the Fall countryside

7.Cross stitch, knit, make something with your hands.

8. Eat breakfast

Inspired by this article.

I am determined with God's help not to less myself pass by this beautiful time of the year.
I will report on what I did.

 Take care,

Pippa Middleton's book

Pippa Middleton, the sister of Kate, Prince William's wife, has penned a book.
It is a ‘comprehensive guide to home entertaining', in which she offers her own tips and ideas for planning a celebration.

The book includes recipe ideas for every occasion throughout the British Calendar, as well as crafts, games and tips on entertainment.

Pippa Middleton is a true expert on the subject as she has spent many years working for her family's business Party Pieces and London events company Table Talk.
In her own words:

‘I hope you will see this as a feel-good book with ideas to look forward to each month, providing threads of lasting, happy memories, be it around a table lit with candles in winter, outside on a rug in summer or in the autumn, perched on a leaf-covered bench, hot drink in hand.’

The beautiful photography is by David Loftus, companion to India Hicks.
