Wow! What a lovely hotel. So sad it is abandoned. Crete is such a pretty place.

MBM-I've never been to Crete, but yes, it does look amazing.
Josh-I do not know, but as in many cases, financial issues and unpaid loans are often the cause. On the other hand, the Xania hotels issue is a different story and close to my heart,so I am going to post on that soon.
Upstatemom-There are lovely hotels in Greece for every taste and purse. So, let me know and I shall do the research!
