Betty Boyns Country & Vintage Designs

Betty Boyns have added to their gorgeous ‘Country Girl’ collection with a new design ‘Goosie Goosie’ and complimentary spotted fabric in Stone and Duck Egg Blue.
‘I’ve always adored Geese, they’re so bossy, bold and noisy. My aunt had a trio called Huey, Dewey and Louie, she would have to protect herself with a flat sheet of metal that she would shield them off whenever she put out the washing, ' says Betty Boyns designer Paula Nicholls.

The soft muted greys and blues work beautifully with the décor of country kitchens or French interiors. Printed in the UK on 100% cotton ‘Goosie Goosie’ is available in fabric, oilcloth, aprons, tea towels, tea cosies and oven gloves.‘The ‘Country Girl’ collection has been created to slip seamlessly into your home but bringing with it a twinkle of Cornish humour and charm with colours drawn from winter mornings to summer evenings.’Betty Boyns launched their design company in January of 2011 specialising in UK made and designed fabrics, kitchen Linens and soft furnishings. You can see the full range at www.bettyboyns.co.uk

The 2013 collection ‘Country Girl’ is inspired by designer, Paula Nicholls, experience of her family’s beautifully tended gardens and small holdings in the far west of Cornwall. Using a palette of 4 colours and 3 designs she has created a unique desirable range. The collection was launched this February and we now stock some of the most prestigious outlets in the west country and wider UK. A new design ‘Goosie Goosie’ and complimentary spots is launched at the end of April 2013.

Betty Boyns fabrics are printed in Manchester and are available as fabric and oilcloth by the metre, and also as charming readymade cushion covers, tea cosies, aprons, tablecloths, napkins and tea towels.

Based in the fishing village of Newlyn, in the far west of Cornwall, Betty Boyns produces beautiful, Country and vintage inspired fabrics, cushions, aprons, table linens, wrapping paper and greetings cards.

Everything they produce is sourced, printed and manufactured in the UK and Cornwall.

Betty Boyns designer, Paula Nicholls, studied art at Falmouth School of Art, then moved to Bristol to work first as a journalist, then an events organiser. Eventually, however, she could no longer resist returning to Cornwall and, ‘determined to do something arty’, she started a card company, Art Cards Cornwall, featuring paintings by local artists. It was an immediate success, and Paula branched first into prints and then, spotting a gap in the market for vintage-style wrapping paper and fabric, set up Betty Boyns – named after her mother.

In doing so she is following a family tradition in the fabric industry – her father, uncle and grandfather all worked for the renowned Crysede Textiles (later Cresta Silks) who supplied Libertys, in St Ives in the Thirties, Forties and Fifties. Betty Boyns launched in 2009 and the first shop, in St Ives opened in 2010.

New from Designers Guild

I have been trading in Designers Guild fabrics and wallpapers for years.
They are absolutely stunning.
I have several fabric remnants that I am considering putting up for a giveaway here at the blog. They will make lovely shams or could be used for quilting.

For the time being, here is what is new from the Designers Guild,
Ralph Lauren and William Yeoward Spring 2012 collections.

What's your favorite from my pick?

I have fallen in love with this chair! Reminds me of strawberry filled chocolate!

Now some views of the booth. Notice the turquoise color, very Designers Guild, but also fashion's Spring/Summer 2010 favorite color.

Flowers, always a major inspiration.

New Arrivals: Maya Romanoff

I'm quite excited to announce the beginning of a new partnership. The American newcomer is MAYA ROMANOFF extraordinary surfacing materials through Pierre Frey who represents Romanoff in Europe.

Wallpaper cut, shaped, and applied to resemble flowering magnolia trees.

"Done on a much smaller scale, this would be fabulous in one's home. Possibly as a family tree with tiny photos of family members in the center of each flower. Scrap paper or fabric could be used in lieu of wall paper for the flowers....ideas are endless", writes High Desert Diva. Romanoff specialises in special techiniques and styles for the discerning customer both in private and work oriented projects. Materials used include crystal, leather, mother of pearl and rafia. You may visit the Maya Romanoff website here and view a video on their work right below. Here is to new beginnings.

This is SO exciting! I love this time of the year, when new stock comes in. We received today the shipment of our new Designers Guild fabrics. Three large parcels of brown stock paper covered sample books. I have been wanting to open them as soon as they arrived. I'll probably begin tomorrow and finish placing them over the weekend.

And her perfectly balanced modern.

I shall post photos of the new fabric, wallpaper and trimmings collections here, so stay tuned!

New Fabrics and a Giveaway

I am addicted to colorful fabrics. Ever since I was following my mom in her shopping trips for fabrics, buttons and patterns for her sewing projects, I love breathing in the smell of fresh fabric. Here is an opportunity for touching-feeling-smelling a new line of fabrics. I have seen them before but have somehow missed finding again in the vast cyberspace. It is called Andalucia and it is by Patty Young. It will ring a bell if you are Spanish, Portuguese or Jewish, but will equally touch you if you are prone to Alpine, Central European charm.
Here is what you have to do to win a sweet little Andalucia pendant and a Fat Quarter Bundle of said prints as seen above. Visit Lanie Jane and follow the instructions. Given that not that many of y'all read this, and with some luck, I may win and share!

Anna-Maria Horner's 'Good Folks' collection

I am a fan of Anna-Maria Horner's. It's her prints. It's her character. It's the whole deal that I like. And I have to like the people to like the product. So, I am very happy to see her new collection of fabrics.

In her own words:

Good Folks was inspired by various sets of things, but all of the notions in my mind had kindness involved. Odd? Perhaps. But can't think of how else to say it. Old European linens. Family. Hand-loomed wool bedspreads. Meals. Fields. Embroidery. Needlepoint kits that I spent summers in Greece as a child occupied with. The icons of the village churches. Layer upon layer of mismatched bed linens piled on top of my floor palette in the upper room of my Yiayia's house to keep me warm even though it was the middle of the summer. Tablecloths drying in the sun. Memories of what my cousin's dowry of linens looked like. All the details. All the work. All the warmth. All the good wishes. Weddings. Wine. Love. Goodness.

Old woolen blankets, may I add. A little itchy against the skin. Priests' ceremonial dresses. Vitraux. Sweet memories that distill themselves slowly inside us, and look for ways to be acknowledged and to live on.

Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics

Last Saturday I posted a Happy Weekend picture, i.e. a picture which represents how I'd like my weekend to be (maybe yours, too?) and I mentioned that I was going to tell you about one of my favorite fabric makers. I hope to do so today.
I came across Vanessa Arbuthnott's fabrics a few years ago through an advertisement in Country Living (UK). I contacted her and that is how my love story with her fabrics begins.

I first dressed an armchair from our shop in her Cockerel fabric (the one below is not mine but very much looks like it).
We dressed the walls in the den in her acorn and leaf wallpaper (now out of stock).

And I am working on our kitchen curtains, that will be made in her Pie in the Sky pattern.

I am also having the armchair above, destined to be my crafts chair in a corner of the living room, just across the den, covered in an Ikea red and green stripe with pillows at the back and on the seat in her Fern and Dragonfly pattern.I really look forward to it!

Here are some more pictures from her website and the lady herself.

I should also not fail to mention what a wonderful sport everyone in her team is. A gem.

Here is wishing you a very pleasant week end!
